RBI waives ₹5 crore penalty imposed on Bank of Baroda over shortfall in soiled note remittances

Bank of Baroda (BOB) said the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has decided to waive the ₹5 crore penalty that was previously imposed on it due to a shortfall in soiled note remittances.

The penalty was attributed to a shortfall in soiled note remittances, indicating issues with the handling of notes that had undergone normal wear and tear.

Former CISF Chief Sheel Vardhan Singh Appointed As UPSC Member

Sheel Vardhan Singh, the former Chief of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), has been appointed as a member of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).

The UPSC, led by a chairperson, can have up to 10 members, each serving a term of six years or until reaching the age of 65.

He served as Director General of the CISF from November 2021 to December 2023.

BCCI announces Campa and Atomberg Technologies as official partners for India Home Cricket Season 2024-26

The Indian home appliances entity, Atomberg, and the soft drink brand, Campa Cola, have teamed up with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) as central sponsors in a long-term deal for the home series.

The multi-year lucrative agreement will cover a total of 48 fixtures and the combined investment by both Indian brands per match will be between INR 75-85 lakh.

Govt appoints Rajay Kumar Sinha as new member finance at IRDAI

The government has appointed Rajay Kumar Sinha as member finance and investment at Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India, or IRDAI. The appointment is for a period of three years from the date of assumption of charge of the post. Sinha at present is the MD and CEO of SBI Capital Markets Limited (SBICAPS).

PFC gets Reserve Bank nod to set up finance company in GIFT City

Power Finance Corporation (PFC) received approval from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to set up a wholly-owned finance company in the GIFT City in Gujarat. The entity at the International Financial Services Centre (IFSC) will present new business opportunities for PFC and contribute to the growth of the country's power sector.

Mumbai Trans Harbour Link, India's longest sea bridge, inaugurated

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the country’s longest bridge over the sea, the 22 km Mumbai Trans Harbour Link, officially the Atal Setu Nhava Sheva Sea Link.

The bridge that was first conceptualised six decades ago will cut the travel time between Sewri and Chirle to under 20 minutes.

India’s lentil production set to touch all-time high: Govt

India is likely to emerge as the world’s largest producer of masoor (lentil) in the 2023-24 crop year (July-June) with the projected output of around 1.6 million tonne (MT).

If the projection comes true, the country’s lentil output would be highest since the 2027-18 crop year when it produced 1.62 MT of pulse variety. In the 2022-23 crop year, lentil output was 1.55 MT.

20th India-Japan Coast Guard exercise

The 20th joint exercise between the Coast Guard of India and Japan took place off the coast of Chennai.

Indian Coast Guard ships Shaunak, Shaurya, Sujay, Samudra Paheredar, Rani Abbakka, Annie Besant, C-440, Sagar Anveshika and Matsya Drushti and six aircraft, and Japanese Coast Guard ship Yashima participated in the exercise.

India has secured the 80th position in the latest edition of the Henley Passport Index, allowing its citizens visa-free access to 62 countries.

This includes popular destinations such as Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand.

India's position is a slight improvement from the previous year when it was ranked 84.
