Carolyn R Bertozzi, Morten Meldal & K Barry Sharpless awarded 2022 Nobel prize in chemistry for development of 'click chemistry'

American chemist Karl Barry Sharpless, who shares the Nobel Prize in Chemistry 2022 with Carolyn R. Bertozzi, also from the US, and Denmark's Morten Meldal, is a two-time winner.

They won this year's Nobel for laying the basis of "click chemistry" -- a functional form of chemistry used in mapping DNA and developing pharmaceuticals.

Captain Ibrahim Traore appointed Burkina Faso president

Captain Ibrahim Traore has been appointed as Head of State, Supreme Head of the Armed Forces.

In the west African country's second coup in nine months, President Paul-Henri Damiba was deposed by Traore and a group of soldiers on September 30.

Amit Shah said that the expressway from Nangal to Baramulla & from Baramulla to Uri has been built at a cost of Rs. 850 cr. A 43-km road has been built connecting Baramulla to Gulmarg at a cost of Rs. 85 cr to help tourists travelling from Gulmarg to Baramulla. He said that over one lakh families are being brought under the ambit of education through a scheme of Rs. 847 cr.

The battalion has been named after Veer Naris.

Savita Punia, the captain of the Indian women's hockey team, and veteran goalkeeper PR Sreejesh both received the FIH goalkeeper of the year title in the men's and women's categories.

Indian-origin Surgeon General Dr Vivek Murthy is US representative on WHO executive board

President Joe Biden has nominated US Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy to serve as the country's representative on the executive board of the World Health Organization.

He was confirmed by the US Senate in March 2021 to serve as the 21st Surgeon General of the country. He previously served as the 19th Surgeon General under President Barack Obama.

No charge for RuPay credit card use on UPI for transaction up to ₹2,000: NPCI

Acquirers shall categorize Small Offline Merchant as per the RBI circular dated December 6, 2017. Nil MDR (no interchange, PSP & app provider charges) shall apply for this category up to the transaction amount less than and equal to Rs 2,000," a circular issued by NPCI,which operates UPI, said.

However, UPI, along with RuPay debit cards, do not attract any charges.

FinMin allows airlines to avail up to Rs 1,500 crore loan under ECLGS

The Union Finance Ministry on Wednesday allowed airlines to avail of up to Rs 1,500 crore loan under the Emergency Credit Line Guarantee Scheme,to help them tide over their cash flow problems. Earlier, an airline could avail of a loan of not more than Rs 400 crore under the ECLGS. The Centre in 2020 started the ECLGS to provide collateral-free and government-guaranteed loan

India emerges as largest producer of sugar in world

India has emerged as the world’s largest producer and second largest exporter of sugar. In Sugar Season 2021-22, a record of more than five thousand lakh metric tons of sugarcane was produced in the country. Out of this, 35 lakh metric ton sugar was diverted to ethanol production and 359 lakh metric ton of sugar was produced by sugar mills.
